A year end review shows that while the real estate market slowed down in 2007, is it may not be the doom and gloom picture painted by the national media.  In fact, Forbes Magazine recently ranked Columbus as the 3rd most stable housing market of the 40 largest American cities. In Hampsted Village, the average 2007 sales price was $358,800, compared to 2006, where the average sales price was $355,891. The biggest difference in comparing 2006 to 2007 is the amount of homes sold: 56 in 2006 and 30 in 2007. Unit sales in New Albany overall were off by about 10% over 2006 while the average sales price fell about 6%. The good news is that beautiful Hampsted Village continues to not only be a great place to live, but also holds value in the market place.

McCoy Performing Arts CenterThe Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts  will celebrate its Grand Opening during a week-long series of events from February 19-24, 2008. The New Albany Community Foundation, through endowments, private donations and fund-raising events will support the programming efforts to attract guest lecturers, artists, and first-class cultural opportunities to the center. The New Albany Company donated the land for the McCoy Center. The vision was to serve both the New Albany Schools and the New Albany community. The 35,000 square foot facility will seat 750 in the assembly hall. The theater is designed to allow every audience member to feel close to the stage. The students will use it for daily activities such as bands, orchestras, ensembles, choirs, drama, lectures and assemblies. The vision to create a first-class performing arts center for our community is the result of hard work by the Board of Directors and hundreds of volunteers on various committees for programming, marketing, outreach and others. There will be multiple performances, and community events during the week of February 19, 2008.   Save These Dates and be a part of the excitement and experience of the McCoy Center Grand Opening!

Despite the cold temperature and misty rain, train rides were among the offerings at the annual Happy Holiday Happenings Market Square in New Albany on Sunday. The New Albany Chamber of Commerce organized a wonderful gathering that has become a Market Square tradition. Other activities at the event included holiday crafts for children from 2 to 4pm, a cookie decorating contest at the Rusty Bucket, and horse and buggy rides sponsored by New Albany Realty and The New Albany Company.

Other activities included train rides, “Jingle Bell” carriage rides, cookie-decorating, craft tables and a recital of “The 12 Days of Christmas” at Starbucks. The event ended with a candlelight sing-a-long and tree-lighting ceremony led by Mayor Nancy Ferguson and the New Albany Chorus.
